Partial Plates

Partial Plates

If you have one or more teeth missing from your upper or lower jaw a partial plate may be an option for you. Partial plates can improve your chewing function, spread biting loads across remaining teeth and greatly improve the appearance of your smile.

A removable partial denture is an appliance that replaces one or several teeth, it is attached to the remaining teeth with clasps and is removable by the wearer. Initially Dr Chung will examine the condition of your teeth and gums, and plan how to replace the missing teeth.

It is important that the remaining natural teeth and gums are in a good condition to support the partial plate. The construction of a partial plate usually requires 4 short appointments for us to take the necessary impressions & records to supply to our lab technician who is based in Adelaide, dental technicians play a very important part in making this precision appliance for you.

The base of the partial plate can be made from acrylic or metal, metal being the preferred option as it is stronger and easier to keep clean. The appearance of gum is made from a pink acrylic and the artificial teeth are also acrylic, available in many shapes, sizes and shades to best match your natural teeth.

Whilst partial plates have their place in dentistry in most cases Dental Implants are the preferred choice for tooth replacement for better stability and long term retention of bone.
